Super Skelemania, a fast indie platformer

 [Análisis] Super Skelemania

Nowadays, platform games, both 2D and 3D, are gaining popularity among users, which is why independent studios tend to launch into platforms that aren't just simple platforms, but have different styles, such as Shovel Knight or Nihilumbra. Today we're here to analyze another interesting platform game called Super Skelemania by Ben Allen, Miroko and Ayrayen, which has been released for both PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch. Without further ado, let's get started:

[Análisis] Super Skelemania

The story of this game is simple: you are a space skeleton that falls into the atmosphere of a strange planet with buildings and different types of nature, and you have to figure out how to get back to space.

But the important part is the gameplay. As I mentioned, this game is a pure 2D platformer where you control a skeleton that can only stretch its head to attack. But don't worry, those won't be the only game mechanics. In the game, we find more than 5 natures: Space, Jungle, Lava, Toxic Lake, Library, Ghostly Rise... and in all of them, we will have to find a map, a special ability, and in some special cases, other types of objects. But the main mission will be to activate the bongo on each floor and, in some cases, defeat a boss to activate the final boss. This way, we will acquire different abilities that will help us overcome the puzzles in the different platforming scenarios.

For all this, the gameplay is entertaining and above all reflective, since you will need to know what to use for each problem that the stage or even the enemies present to us, in addition, the exploration is very open. Are you ready to return to space?

The graphics, meanwhile, incorporate the highest quality of retro 2D platformers, combining them with a bit of depth and detail, especially with vivid colors and more precise details like flowers and ghosts. The soundtrack also features retro touches, and it varies greatly depending on the surroundings, as do the details of the graphics and their base colors, but it can be pretty tiresome. The game averages 2-3 hours of gameplay, offering ample exploration, so we could consider it a fairly short game.

Do we recommend Super Skelemania? Without a doubt, although we previously mentioned that it's short, it's a short, retro-style indie game that will take us to an unexplored planet with various natures where we'll have to discover not only several secrets but also fight several bosses with quite interesting designs and mechanics, since the world itself is your own platforming puzzle with a soundtrack in the same retro style of the video game that fits perfectly with every place we go. It's also very carefully thought out in detail.

Ready to pick up the skeleton controller? Available on PC and Switch for €5, less in many sales. Such a great price for it.
