Twin Robots: Ultimate Edition, a very fun cooperative game

 

Nintendo Switch is receiving a ton of games from different genres, and one of them is Twin Robots, developed by Thinice Games. This game was already released on PS4, PS Vita, Wii U, and Steam, but now comes to Switch in its Ultimate Edition. Why is it called the Ultimate Edition? Because it was originally going to be a sequel, but it was combined with the first installment to create the definitive edition, Twin Robots: Ultimate Edition. Let's get started:

Before we begin, let's talk a little about the story. It's very simple. Basically, a company's robots are sent for testing if they are defective, and if they fail any test, they will be discarded.

The gameplay is based on a 2D platformer where we have to control two small robots, one black and one white. One of them will be locked in a small room, while the other will be free to roam the stage. What we will have to do in each level is save the trapped robot before it is crushed (because that will mean a Game Over). After that, we will have to reach the final door with both of them, which will require 100 energy points from one of the robots to open.

Energy will be the basis of the gameplay, since if you run out of it in either robot you will lose the game. How do you recover it? Easy, by stepping on the energy tiles that appear after opening the hatch to the other robot or by getting a battery that will refill almost all the energy of the robot that takes it, although there are only one or two of these per level. The gameplay in this game is very fun, except that sometimes the difficulty is too high in one level and too low in the next, making that small difficulty curve somewhat unbalanced. In addition, the achievements will make you look for secrets in the level itself. In the game, you will need at least 6 hours to complete it and 10-15 hours to get everything.

The graphics in this game are quite dark, which blends perfectly with the story and gameplay. It also clearly shows that you're inside a factory where everything that's no longer useful is destroyed. As for the music, the most notable thing is the sounds of gears, spikes, and other factory artifacts. The music itself isn't particularly notable, just the sound effects.

Do we recommend Twin Robots in its Ultimate Edition? Well, this 2D platformer has quite interesting gameplay based on the energy of the two robots and is perfect for playing with a friend and a Joy-Con each, completing levels cooperatively; playing alone isn't as fun. On the other hand, the graphics and sounds immerse you in the factory, and the game lasts long enough to enjoy the 40 levels leisurely.
