Hexologic, education through video games

Video games are educational. I think this is clear to everyone due to the large number of studies that demonstrate this, but there are games that are directly designed to be educational, for example, the very recent Minecraft: Education Edition and the game we're going to talk about today: Hexologic.

The gameplay of this video game is very intelligent, as it places us on a small board at each level, and on that board, a number will be placed diagonally, horizontally, or vertically. We will have to obtain them by matching tiles of 1, 2, or 3, and/or whatever tiles the board includes for that level. Adding all the tiles together, the resulting number must be the same as the one shown. It's more or less like a word search but with mathematical addition, something that greatly helps maintain and train the mind, as this is more of an educational game than a normal game.

This game reminds us of the times when you picked up your Nintendo DS or Nintendo 3DS and played several rounds of Brain Training, as it shares the same casual and not so constant gameplay style, which is why the game's music is made to be in the background while your mind thinks about how to complete the board with the numbers requested, so it is quite forgettable but very relaxing.

Hexologic may not be the game of the year, but if you want to enjoy the truly educational side of video games for a while, this is the game for you. It's a game that challenges you to use your mind and is also a good way to teach basic math to anyone, even your children or grandchildren. Unfortunately, as a game, it doesn't reach the standards that many others do. However, its price, €3, allows you to have fun without having to pay too much. In addition to this, the developer updates the game from time to time, adding new levels that are challenging, and they even recently updated the game icon to show that there was new content.
